Event Plng/Coordination

On June 2, 2010, Sam Harrell was contracted as the Event Planner and Camp Coordinator for the Youth Lifeline America (YLA) Football & Life Skills Camp.

The Football & Life Skills Camp was the leading part of a two-part of the Helping Hands Celebrity Weekend, which was billed as "celebrity, athletes, entertainers and business professionals coming together for an exciteding weekend of charity."   The entire event took place from July 12, 2010 to July 18th, with camp activities taking place on the 12th at the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI),  in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The camp successfully provided more than 250 campers a life altering experience, as they received coaching from professional NFL football players, and life skills instruction from NFL Super Bowl Champion Roland Williams, the developer and founder of Youth Lifeline America.
As the on-the-ground Event Planner and Camp Coordinator  for YLA, Sam's activities and responsibilities included, but were not limited to:
  1. Fundraising via sponsorship advertising and event participation
  2. Sponsor identification and relations
  3. Supplier identification and delivery coordination (food & drinks, and other related items), and arranging housing and transportation for campers
  4. Facility planning and preparation (advertisement placement, chair arrangement) and cleanup
  5. Camper support, including classroom preparation, and providing hydration during practice.
  6. Volunteer recruitment and oversight, and
  7. Program planning with YLA senior staff and reporting on actions taken to assure required outcomes.   Special acknowledgement from Roland Williams to Sam

It is worth noting that Jacquel Dawson (standing to the left of Roland Williams), a community advocate for the youth of the Virgin Islands, was instrumental in helping Sam Harrell succeed in his tasks.  Sam states that "it was Jacquel's commitment to her community that led him to recruit her support from the very beginning". He also says, "the most important thing he did early on was recognizing Jacquel's commitment to her community, combined with her desire to bring something significant to the USVI that could make a difference in the lives of its youth represented her greatest strength."

Finally,  Sam says, "Jacquel is my hero; I just did my job."
