Youth in Action

Lets applaud "Youth in Action".

Everyday, all over America much attention is given to the problems caused by a few youth (i.e. crime, drugs, gang violence, teenage pregnancies, school dropouts, etc,). The truth is, even under difficult circumstances, many more young people are taking POSITIVE ACTIONS in their communities that are worthy of mention and deserving of our attention. Some of these actions include, but are not limited to personal improvement, community service, volunteerism, leadership and/or academic achievement.

With this in mind, ueSolutions has dedicated this web-page to bringing attention to such youths. If you know of such young persons in your community, you may nominate them for inclusion in this campaign to bring attention to Youth in Action, so we all may applaud and encourage them.

The ueSolutions Youth In Action program is not an attempt to replace or otherwise compete with other Youth In Action programs offered by other organizations, but, rather, an adjunct to those programs.  The nomination of a youth to this program in no way represents an exclusion of a youth from other program.

Nominated by Samuel C. Harrell

During my many years of travel throughout the United States of America, from New York to California, from Arizona to Chicago, from Hawaii to the U.S. Virgin Islands, I have observed young men and women taking the lead in their respective communities to make things better. Below is at least one young person that has impressed me by his efforts:

Vernon Araujo:  NFL Super Bowl Champion, Roland Williams first introduced me (Sam Harrell) to Vernon Araujo in late May 2010 in St. Thomas Virgin Islands, during the early stages of our ramp-up of the Helping Hands Celebrity Weekend. Right from the start I found Vernon to be a compelling and confident personality.  I didn't realize at the time that he would become so critical to me as I worked to get people and reources in the right places whenever I needed.  I can say without reservation that Vernon and his Young Professional Network (YPN) represents the very best of the USVI Territory.

Vernon Araujo was born in Antigua, W.I. in August, 1984.  By the age of three, he moved with his family to St. John, US Virgin Islands and later to St. Thomas.  After graduating from Antilles School in 2002, he achieved his Bachelor of Science degree in Communication from Boston College in 2006.  Currently, Vernon is an Account Executive for WZIN-FM 104.3 "The Buzz."  As Vice President of the STT-STJ Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Network, he hopes to help create an environment in the Virgin Islands for young professionals to network and work together for the betterment of our community.  In his spare time, Vernon enjoys coaching varsity soccer, events planning, and photography.
